Once upon a time there was a girl who had trouble falling asleep. Try as she might, she'd toss and turn, tangling the covers, and mussing the pillows. It was the stories that kept her awake words dancing around her head, begging to be written, despite her attempts to swat them away.
"Go away" she'd mutter crossly, turning to avoid them "can't you see I'm trying to sleep!"
So reluctantly they would leave her be, and she would fall asleep, mind wandering into her special dream world. But even there the stories followed her and forced her to act them out.
"See" they would say, "even here you cannot escape. You must listen to us."

Maybe it was brought in with the rain, or maybe it had always been there, but Alice knew there was something different about her. She wasnt like her sister, despite what her parents told her. Maybe it was the air of solitude mixed with a touch of underlying danger which always clung to her, but maybe it was the constant hand-washing and the extreme fussiness and precision with which everything needed to be done or thered be consequences.
